Braiding Nairobi began as a story and became a solution.
Braiding Nairobi was born out of a Fulbright–National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship. Our founder, Natachi Onwuamaegbu, spent a year interviewing braiders in Nairobi's Kenyatta Market, documenting their challenges, hopes, and resilience through articles, videos, and photo essays.
What she heard again and again was this: "We're talented. We're hardworking. We just need a better way to reach our customers."
So, we built one.
